LAGUNA COLORADA GEOTHERMOELECTRIC PROJECT

  General Description:

  The project is an initiative of the a state-owned company ENDE (National Company of

  Electricity). The project consists of implementing a 120 MW (2 x 60 MW) to generate

  electricity to the National Interconnected System, the region of Quetena Chico, Quetena

  Grande and the borax factory. The Project uses the geothermal resources “Campo de Sol

  de Mañana”. The National Electric Company (ENDE) has completed the digging of five

  geothermal wells.

  30 years

 

  Accreditation period:

  21 years

 

  Estimated Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions:

  Annual average: 438,272 tCO2-equivalent

 

  Project Benefits:

  Clean energy in the national energy system

 

  Electricity will be available for the rural communities of Quetena Grande and Quetena Chica

  and industrial developments.

 

  Technology transfer in the exploitation and evaluation of the geothermal energy.

 

  New employment sources will be created.

 

  Total Project cost estimate:

  Development costs: 0.5 US$ millions

  Installed costs: 151.1 US$ millions

  Other costs:  28.39 US$  millions

  Total costs: 179.99 US$ millions

 

  Current Status:

  The project has a PIN and the Note of Interest is under treatment.
