MASSIVE REFORESTATION PROGRAM WITH NATIVE SPECIES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AGROFORESTRY SYSTEMS IN THE HIGH VALLEY REGION OF THE COCHABAMBA DEPARTMENT WITH THE PURPOSE OF CARBON SEQUESTRATION

  Project Description:

  Promote the reforestation in the region of the High Valley (Valle Alto) of the Department of

  Cochabamba, Bolivia through the reforestation program with native tree species (willow,

  Californian pepper tree, carob tree, ceibo, etc.) alternates with fruit trees (peach, apple,

  and pear) and agroforestry systems which include new sustainable agroecology

  technologies. Furthermore, it will do a management training and community organization

  to develop the reforestation activities.

  Accreditation period:

  30 years

 

  Estimated Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions:

  Annual, after the fifth year: 132,000 tCO2e

  Up to a period of 10 years:  1,056,000 tCO2e

  Up to a period of 20 years: 2,376,000 tCO2e

 

  Project Benefits:

  The project will reduce the emission of the Green House Gases (GHGs) through the carbon

  sequestration.

 

  Mitigation to the effects produced by the global climate change.

 

  Conservation and restoration of water river basins in benefit of the micro region.

 

  Recovery of eroded soils and soils affected by the salinity for the food security.

 

  Habitat enlargement to protect the biodiversity of the region.

 

  Recovery of genetic material of the native plant species.

 

  The project in the short and medium term will generate an employment increase in the

  project area.

 

  Training of peasants in planning and management of nurseries, planting of native plant

  species, communal and local management of forestry, agricultural production and

  environmental education.

 

  Creation of new investments in the project area.

 

  New employment sources will be created.

 

  Increase income of families.

 

  Equity in the benefits distribution produced by the project activities.

 

  Alleviation of the poverty.
