AFFORESTATION AND REFORESTATION OF DEGRADED AREAS IN THE BOLIVIAN

SUBANDEAN VALLEYS

SECTOR: AFFORESTATION & REFORESTATION

  Project Description:

The proposed A/R CDM project activity aims to restore damaged ecosystems on degraded

soils to reduce threats to existing primary forests, to reconnect fragmented ecosystems, to

conserve hydrological services and to enhance access to livelihood means in adjacent

communities. Community members will benefit form additional firewood and wood

products’ supply, additional income from sale of carbon credits, and reduced soil erosion.

  Project lifetime:

  years

  Accreditation period:

  20 years

  Estimated Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions:

  Up to and including 2012: 148,006 t CO2e

  Up to and including 2017: 238,611 t CO2e

The project is mitigating climate change sequestering 5,547,749 Mio tCO2 during project

  lifetime.

  Project Benefits:

The project is mitigating climate change sequestering 5.54 Mio tCO2 during project lifetime.

By connecting highly fragmented ecosystems it contributes to biodiversity conservation.

Reduced soil erosion and improved water harvesting by interception will reduce the risk of

  temporary flooding.

The project reconnects fragmented ecosystems with the adjacent Amboró National Park

improving of species’ migration between different ecosystems. In addition to increasing the

natural diversity and rehabilitating abandoned pastures, it will protect the soils and reduce

the erosion process in areas of steep slope improving landslide prevention and control

through fixation of the soil. Better retention of water flows will lead to the stabilization of

  hydrographic basin.

The project is mitigating climate change sequestering 5,547,749 Mio tCO2 during project

  lifetime.

  Total Project cost estimate:

  US$ 10,932,446

  Current Status:

The project has a PIN and Profile of the Project (Feasibility).

  Methodology:

  AR-AM 0003
