SMALL SCALE PROJECT FOR THE CARBON SEQUESTRATION AND SOIL CONSERVATION IN THE NATIVE COMMUNITIES OF KAYNAKAS, WHICH ARE LOCATED IN THE INTER-ANDEAN VALLEYS OF CHUQUISACA

SECTOR: AFFORESTATION & REFORESTATION

  Project Description:

It is a small scale project for the carbon sequestration and soil conservation through the

afforestation and reforestation with a mixture of native and introduced plants in the native

communities of Kayanakas, which are located in the inter-Andean valleys of the

  Chuquisaca Department, Bolivia.

  Project lifetime:

  30 years

  Accreditation period:

  30 years

  Estimated Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions:

  Up to and including 2012:  20,211 t CO2e

  Up to a period of 5 years:   52,991 tCO2e

  Up to a period of 10 years: 52,991 tCO2e

  Up to a period of 15 years: 130,353 tCO2e

  Up to a period of 30 years:  620,256 tCO2e

  Project Benefits:

The project will reduce the emission of the Green House Gases (GHGs) through the carbon

  sequestration.

Protection against the eroded basins located in the project area.

Soil protection against the Hydric and eolic erosion, besides the conservation of the soil

  cohesion.

Basin regulation which permits the increase of water resources of the phreatic nappe.

Decrease the humidity loses owe to the soil evaporation due to the lack of vegetation

  cover.

Increase of the biodiversity through the afforestation with native species.

Whole the families which live in the project area will be benefited due to the incomes to be

generated by the project activities. Thus, the project contributes to reduce the poverty

and to generate a new job sources.

Training of peasants in planning and management of nurseries, planting of native plant

species, communal and local management of forestry, agricultural production and

  environmental education.

To dynamize the forest productive chain so much in the primary transformation as well as

  in the secondary wood transformation.

Contribute to the sustainable development of the communities delivering a 40% of the

incomes produced by the purchase of CERs. This amount will necessarily help to ensure

the basic alimentation for the population.

  Total Project cost estimate:

  Preparation costs:      55,860 US$
